Train

Learn, then practise

Learn shows Stockfish's move first and why: the motif, the threat, every move coloured. Practice asks you, and judges the answer at once.

Compare

Which position is better?

Two positions from the same game, one move apart. Pick the better one; Stockfish shows why, on both boards, from subtle to decisive.

Openings

Openings you understand

24 openings, 15 moves a side. Every move explained: what it does, what it stops, what it prepares, and why not the obvious alternative.

Endgames

Endgames that win

The box, the opposition, key squares, Lucena and Philidor: watch each technique drawn on the board, then try it against perfect defence.

Analysis

Think first, then look

Give your verdict, candidates and the opponent's threat before Stockfish answers. Each prediction is scored, and what you miss comes back.

New · Grandmaster games

Inside a Grandmaster's mind.

Famous games by world champions and 2700-rated players, lived from inside both minds: each player in their own voice, seeing the position, calculating four or five moves ahead, planning, deciding. The plans appear on the board before they happen, and every decision is yours to try first.

Meet Ferz, your chess counsellor.

In chaturanga, the ferz stood beside the king and gave counsel. Ours sits beside your board in Learn, Practice and Analysis: ask anything about the position and Ferz answers in plain words, from Stockfish 19's own lines.

  • Grounded. Every answer is built from Stockfish's lines for your exact position.
  • Checked. Each move Ferz names is verified against the engine before you see it.
  • Honest. A confidence score on every answer, with the reasons one tap away.
  • Curious. When your question is unclear, Ferz asks back instead of guessing.

I played d3. Was that a mistake?

Not at all: d3 is a good move. Stockfish's top choice is c3, and it rates the two almost the same. Its line even plays d3 next: 4. c3 Nf6 5. d3 d6 6. O-O O-O, a quiet Giuoco Piano that stays about level.

The training loop

Like a gym, with a scale that does not lie.

  1. 1Commit. Choose your move (and in Analysis your verdict, candidates and the threat) before the engine speaks.
  2. 2Reveal. Stockfish 19 scores every prediction at once: the move by the winning chances it keeps.
  3. 3Rate. Each answer is a result against the position's difficulty, credited to the skill it tests. First tries at new positions only.
  4. 4Rehearse. Misses go into your journal and come back on a spaced schedule; Learn shows the same idea in new positions.
  5. 5Prove. A skill rating that rises beyond its uncertainty band is the proof you got stronger.
